HYPNOTIC ANESTHESIA

There are several ways in which the person who is proficient in self-hypnosis may literally anesthetize a region of his body. Painless childbirth and successful surgery without drugs are both coming to be almost commonplace occurrences. Instruction in how to do it, however, is indeed skimpy.

Pain, like neuron response, normally travels through afferent and efferent paths of the complex nervous system to and from the brain.

There is at all times a sensory response to pain, quite obviously evolutionized in man for survival purposes.

The purpose of paralyzing drugs is the blocking of the pathway to the brain; ostensibly hypnotic anesthesia does the same thing. For example, as Novocain numbs the nerve ends in the mouth it also prevents any agitation and transmission of pain to the brain. (View Jim Zinger using Waking Hypnosis for Dental Surgery... To better understand how this works, imagine sensitive feeder lines designed to transmit a message to headquarters.

If the lines become short circuited or cut in two, then we might have an idea of how pain is transmitted (or not) from one's hand (for example) to the brain. Pain is nature's way of enabling man to prepare himself for protection, survival or repair.

In our study of the neuron, nerve cells and properties, we examined the marvelous biologic impulse of the nerve to interchange potassium, chlorides and sodium. We saw how an impulse is carried from one nerve cell to the synaptic area, thence to the next cell and eventually to the brain. Imagine now that the nerve cell we examined has become temporarily lifeless and unable to function.

In other words, any message being transmitted would stop right there at the "lifeless" nerve cell and go no further. And so it is that hypnotic anesthesia can stop a message, including pain or feeling of any kind, from one part of the body to its usual reporting place, the brain. (And all this by directed thought or suggestive image.) The brain then becomes insensible (not knowing) of any pain or even the possibility of pain, though a painful act may either be planned or in actual operation.

INSTRUCTION IN COLD ANESTHESIA

One method of hypnotic anesthesia is as follows:

First, deeply relax, of course, and imagine yourself wading into a lake in the winter. Cakes of ice are floating on the top, snow crests the mountains in the background. Your feet immediately become numb.

Then dip one hand into the water - knowing, feeling and experiencing the hand also becoming numb. Your other hand is out in the sunshine and with it you can feel the sun's warmth.

The hand dipped into the icy water has come out completely numbed, with no feeling whatever. You place the frozen hand against the part of your body that you wish to anesthetize - knowing, feeling and experiencing that section become numb and without feeling of any kind.

If it is your left hand, then return it to the ice water if necessary, and retouch the place you wish to anesthetize. All the while your right hand is out in the sunshine, warm, and you can actually feel the tremendous difference. You can stay in the water or come out of it, as you see fit.

This method requires some practice and works well for the more experienced hypnotist or student proficient in self-hypnosis. As in all of life's endeavors, and especially in hypnosis, self-confidence and a good imagination make this modality effective.

Once the need for the anesthesia is past, the subject must be returned to the relaxed state and brought out of the "benumbed" feeling by the suggestion that "all feeling returns, you are feeling wonderful." In the case of a pulled tooth It is usually a good idea for the subject to remain in a state of waking hypnosis with the affected area remaining numb for some hours after the extraction.

In the case of more serious surgery, a continual and repetitive image of the ice body and beginning technique may be necessary.

"Instant" sleep may also be used in this case for post-operative therapy by directing the sleep centers to become effective and experience a terribly tired feeling - thereby sending the subject into natural sleep, the greatest therapy we have.

INSTRUCTION IN THE "SWITCH" METHOD

Another popular technique for hypnotic anesthesia is known as the "switch" method which would be as follows:

First, deeply relaxed, and imagine that within your brain is a long line of switches, with each switch affecting a specific section of your body. If, for example, you have cut your hand or there is a large splinter under the skin which has to be removed, imagine a switch leading to the affected hand with a COLORED LIGHT above the switch.

See yourself pulling the switch, THE LIGHT GOING OFF, and consequently, (realizing that this switch controlled the current lending to your hand), feeling nothing whatever.

Your suggestion would be:

"My hand is becoming numb, numb, number, number, number, number... NUMB.

I am going to pinch my hand and feel NOTHING.

As I pinch the hand it becomes even number and absolutely without feeling of any kind.

THERE IS NO FEELING. Completely numb."

Continued practice with the switch method has allowed some practitioners to become. So proficient that they may simply stroke the face (for instance) three times and have it become instantly numb. The student should work toward such perfection of technique.

Dr. William S. Roger is an authority in the whole area of hypnotic anesthesia and has performed over four hundred operations using only hypnosis as anesthesia.

Still another method is to imagine that the part of the body to be anesthetized has been eliminated from the body. If it is a tooth, for example, imagine that the lower jaw (for instance) has been entirely removed. Another method is to imagine yourself apart from your body and looking DOWN on your body until the pain is alleviated.

Whichever method you choose for a certain circumstances, keep in mind that as Dr. LeCron states, "The subconscious can close the nerve currents just as an anesthetic drug paralyzes the nerves." Your repertoire of professional "tools" is never complete without your knowledge and practice of hypnotic anesthesia.

In order to sell somebody something, you just have to remember what it is that we're offering. The problem is that, as human beings, we tend to forget facts, and we tend to remember stories. This is an inherent characteristic of the human memory system.

It's not a miraculous revelation. In fact, it's been known from time immemorial. All the great books of religion in the world are written in story form. We teach children using stories, and we do this because stories are easy to remember.

When we want somebody to remember what it is that we're offering them through the use of hypnotherapy, we need to tell stories.

Consider that if you were to be asked right now how much you could remember of what you learned in high school, you would probably say "very little". On the other hand, if you were asked if you could remember your first date, you would probably think for a moment and say "yes".

An interesting question then comes to mind, and that is, since both of these were at about the same period of your life, why is it easier to remember one than the other?

The answer is this. You do, in fact, remember a great deal of what you learned in high school. In fact, you use it every day. You just don't remember it with any degree of specificity, because what you learned was an endless string of facts and data that were to be used in your daily life in your work.

Your first date, however, is a story. There are names, faces, people, and places connected with it. You could probably tell a story and, if you stop and think about it deeply, you can probably recall sounds, and some people can even recall scents and odors.

Therefore, when you're selling hypnotherapy services, it's important, if you want them to remember it, that you put it in the form of a credible story in a prose format if you will, so that it's easy for them to hold onto and remember the story.

All the great books of religion in the world were written in story form. We teach children using stories. Here's a perfect example for you to think about:

You go to the store and see a copy of Good Housekeeping. The headline reads, 25 Ways to Keep the Kids Quiet On A Long Trip in the Car. "Just what I need", you say to yourself.

You buy it for the story and you read it for the copy. Facts tell, but stories sell. The story is in the headline and that's what got you to buy the magazine.

Do you recall the book "How to win Friends and Influence People?" The title is 10% primary message, 90% implication. The implication is that you're going to learn how to win friends and influence people.

That may or may not be true but that's why you purchased the book. Whether you really accomplish the task of winning friends and influencing people is another matter, but the title of the book said you could and you believed it.

You see what you believe, and you buy the book.

The implications of the advertising and marketing of hypnotherapy are:

· Facts tell but stories sell and

· People don't buy hypnotherapy - they buy the benefits.

As you're developing advertising and marketing plans, remember to tell good credible stories about the benefits of your hypnotherapy services, as perceived by the buyer, not you as a seller.

Your promotional efforts should contain a headline that aims your services selectively at readers or listeners with an immediate interest in your services. You should be concerned about attracting attention and arousing interest - a persuasive presentation, based on information, AIMED SQUARELY AT A HUMAN NEED.

What Do You Want to DO With Your Life?

When your goals are crystal clear, when you know EXACTLY what you want to accomplish with your life, you've taken a big step toward emotional effectiveness. And the first step in developing clear goals is to create a dream list of EVERYTHING you ever want to accomplish with your life.

Remember, this is called a DREAM list, not a "reasonable goals" list. The important point here is to let yourself dream without rules or limitations. Don't ask yourself what's practical, realistic, pragmatic, or actually doable. Instead, let yourself imagine, with NO LIMITS, and write down everything you can think of emotionally, physically, financially, spiritually - what you would like to learn, what you would like to see, what you would like to do, what you would like to give.

What Do You Believe is Possible?

Your BELIEFS about what's possible - what level of success is attainable, what your income potential is, how long it takes to develop a new skill, how other people will react to change, etc. - can have a profound
impact on your emotional effectiveness.

Our beliefs, like our values, don't simply spring up from nowhere. Our beliefs are based on our experiences and observations. This doesn't necessarily mean that our beliefs are objectively correct, or that those beliefs serve us well and help us accomplish our goals. But it's important to always acknowledge that our beliefs DO spring from a source, usually our experiences and observations.

It's also important to acknowledge that sometimes, our beliefs can get in the way. They can prevent us from achieving our goals. Or they can prevent us from setting the goals in the first place - because we believe they aren't attainable. Or even if we do set a goal, our beliefs can dampen our motivation level if we don't really believe it's attainable. Or when we run into obstacles, we can tend to give up too easily.

What about you? Do you have any limiting beliefs? After you complete your initial dream list, read through it again and notice your emotional reactions. Are there some items that instinctively feel undoable or unlikely? Ask yourself why you feel that way and explore your thinking fully. Are your doubts based on beliefs that may be holding you back? Sometimes just RECOGNIZING that a limiting belief is holding you back can be enough to unleash your imagination and help you come up with creative ways to accomplish your goals.

The important point to remember here is that as you develop your DREAM list, don't let limiting beliefs cause you to aim too low. And also remember that the best way to overcome a limiting belief is to come up with NEW experiences or observations that help you develop a NEW, more empowering belief.

There is plenty of anecdotal evidence and scientific brain research showing that human emotions and the unconscious plays a major role in consumer selection of products and services. As our multi cultural society matures; it becomes evident that those companies and individual who what to advantage themselves in sales and marketing must understand the perception and mind of other cultural groups. According to Gerald Zaltman, Professor of Marketing at Harvard Business School: as much as 95 percent of consumers' thinking occurs in their unconscious minds. 3. Design your office, retail store layout, waiting rooms, ads and brochures that reflect the Metaphors of your market. Example of how one Doctors office focused on outpatients care as being more nurturing and responsive. Patients view rooms with chairs lined up in rows as boring, frustrating and long waits. The office was rearranged to promote friendliness and privacy and was supplied with several TV's and a computer. The results were a decline in waiting time complaints and patients felt they were receiving a better quality of care, referral rates increased more that 18 percent and patient cancellations decreased by 23 percent.

4. Build into your oral and written marketing/sales communications stories using metaphors gathered from your market.

5. Probing the mind of your customer/client requires you uncovering the metaphors they use when thinking about purchasing your products and services. Once you have uncovered their metaphors you can identify some or most of the important and hidden drivers of your customer/client buying behaviors.

6. Develop an organizational climate and a workplace attitude that strengthens sales and marketing creativity.

This requires breaking into more boxes and not applying the metaphor that suggests you step out of the box. Breaking into more boxes enables you to gather gleaning new knowledge and will help pry you loose of conventional thinking. How you think is more important and will produce more productive and innovational ideas than what you think.

Why is it so difficult for some of us to accept who we are at the moment, without judgement or selfblame? To feel confident and accepting of ourselves TODAY? Maybe we fear that if we do accept ourselves we won't be motivated to improve, to change those things about ourselves that aren't serving us well. We use a myriad of uncomfortable emotions to motivate ourselves to change or to achieve more. Anger, competition, guilt or fear may be part of what we hope will motivate us to change.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. Loving, accepting and being happy with yourself does not mean you stop wanting to improve. An innate desire for growth and development is a much more powerful tool to use than fear or guilt to get yourself to change. You can be perfectly happy with yourself, truly feeling great about who you are, and still want to grow, learn and change.

When there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you. ~African Proverb

If you find yourself troubled with self-doubt or self-hatred, what can you do? There are two techniques that may work for you, one directed inward and the other directed outward. The inward technique is to focus on your potential as a human being. Think about everything the human race has accomplished, the great achievements human beings are capable of. Understand and accept that you too are capable of all that, by virtue of the fact that you, too, are a human being.

The outward technique is to give to others to better their lives. To focus your attention on giving something of value to others—your time, attention, caring, expertise, etc.—as a way of validating your own significance as a human being while at the same time helping others do the same for themselves.

Try these two methods for yourself and see what happens:

· Rather than thinking about what you can’t do, take a blank tablet and make a list of a hundred things (yes, a hundred things) you can do.
· Rather than thinking about what you don’t have that you want, make a list of a hundred (yes, another hundred) things you have that you are grateful for.

After you have made your lists, find some place that needs your time or talents. Don’t just write a check; write a check (if you can) and give of yourself as well. Take an elderly person shopping or to a Doctor’s appointment, give a little relief to an overwhelmed single parent by taking their child to the zoo or a ball game, help to repair or build affordable housing, spend time with “special needs” children, become one of the people who delivers hot meals once a day to shut-ins. It’s difficult to think badly of yourself when a child is laughing along with the story you’re reading, or when an elderly person lights up when you arrive with a nutritious meal and a caring smile.

The harmful effect of stress is a topic attracting a great deal of earned attention these days. It can ruin your health and your life.

Medical experts, worldwide, discover more links every day between stress and illness, both physical and mental. The ability to "cope" has become a desirable, if not necessary, key to surviving in today's world.

Actually, you are under stress every time you are required to adapt or adjust to personal, social, and environmental influences, whether positive or negative. In today's environment, the most common and cumulatively taxing source of stress is the constant change we must adapt to.

Even events we think of as ordinary milestones can be sources of stress: marriage, a promotion, buying a house, etc. These are called developmental stresses. When too many of these occur at once, or in rapid succession, we find it difficult or impossible to cope and stress results.

In addition to developmental stress, there is stress related to the environment -- smog, traffic jams, noise, weather, etc. There is stress generated by emotions -- worry, self-doubt, marital strife, etc.

But all stress isn't bad. Everyone needs some degree of stress to meet change and conflict with assurance and motivation. However, too much stress over a long period of time can cause real problems.

When the body is under pressure, stress-related chemicals pour into the blood stream, muscles tense, and the heart rate and blood flow to the brain increase. More oxygen is required.

We often store stress rather than release it as it occurs. Storing stress leads to depression, insomnia, irritability, anxiety, backaches, headaches, gastrointestinal problems and asthma attacks. Stress has been linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, ulcers, some cancers and other serious health problems.

Whether you are the type of person who handles stress and tension successfully or the type who reacts strongly and inappropriately to every trivial upset, being aware of how stress takes hold is the first step toward coping.

Even seemingly small pressures and demands can drain your internal resources. When faced with a real crisis, you may not have "coping resources" on which to rely. Learning to effectively deal with small and recurring stresses on a daily basis is the key to your personal stress-management program.

Begin by increasing your body awareness. Recognize stress signals before they become too detrimental.

Obviously, these signals differ with each individual; however, you may experience one or more of the following physical indications: Sweaty, cold palms, muscle tension, rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, hyperventilation, acidic stomach, general feelings of weakness, or high blood pressure (which cannot be detected unless it's checked).

Remember that sources of stress can be internal or external. You may find that poor communication is a major source of stress, related to the anger, hurt, or frustration felt due to the actions of another.

Unreasonable self-expectations are often found to be internal sources of stress resulting from a poor or unrealistic self-image (see Unit VIII).

Once you've become aware of your own stress signals and their probable sources, work to eliminate or change the sources; or modify your responses. Indeed, any external sources of stress cannot be eliminated or changed, i.e., bad weather, a rude co-worker, car trouble, etc.

A stress-free life is neither possible nor even desirable.

However, learning to use self-hypnosis for stress reduction can aid you in achieving the deep relaxation necessary to prevent stress build-up.

The more time spent in the relaxed state the less time you are subject to the effects of tension; obviously, you cannot be relaxed and tense at the same time

Imagination and visualization again play an important role when using hypnosis to alleviate or reduce stress. When you are deeply relaxed, use the visualization process to do one or more of the following exercises:

1. Imagine yourself feeling the way you do after a very rewarding physical activity, such as running, bowling, tennis, swimming, dancing; actually feel the sense of physical well being.

2. Visualize your favorite animal playing or relaxing on a clear day; feel the carefree happiness of playing and the peaceful, not-a-care-in-the-world relaxation.

3. Visualize the bottom of your file basket or in-box as being empty, and feel the sense of completion.

4. Imagine that you are tasting your favorite fruit or smelling your favorite scent. Savor the taste or scent and feel yourself relax.

5. Visualize your favorite color and let it spread throughout your body and mind. Feel the wave of pleasant relaxing.

6. Tune in with your mind's ear to your favorite piece of music and feel the soothing wave of peace and relaxation

7. Let your mind's eye take you to a place where you feel safe, secure, serene and happy; your personal, private paradise. Visualize yourself doing something you thoroughly enjoy, or see yourself completely relaxed and content.

It is well known that exercise is probably the most widely practiced stress reduction activity in America. A regular exercise program along with a good diet can help keep the body less susceptible to stress-related illness.

Chemicals introduced into your body can cause stress too, so consider your use of caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, salt and sugar when determining the sources of your stress. While formulating your stress-reduction suggestions, remember to incorporate various habit changing ideas relating to exercise, diet and the use of chemicals.

In order to sell somebody something, you just have to remember what it is that we're offering. The problem is that, as human beings, we tend to forget facts, and we tend to remember stories. This is an inherent characteristic of the human memory system.

It's not a miraculous revelation. In fact, it's been known from time immemorial. All the great books of religion in the world are written in story form. We teach children using stories, and we do this because stories are easy to remember.

When we want somebody to remember what it is that we're offering them through the use of hypnotherapy, we need to tell stories.

Consider that if you were to be asked right now how much you could remember of what you learned in high school, you would probably say "very little". On the other hand, if you were asked if you could remember your first date, you would probably think for a moment and say "yes".

An interesting question then comes to mind, and that is, since both of these were at about the same period of your life, why is it easier to remember one than the other?

The answer is this. You do, in fact, remember a great deal of what you learned in high school. In fact, you use it every day. You just don't remember it with any degree of specificity, because what you learned was an endless string of facts and data that were to be used in your daily life in your work.

Your first date, however, is a story. There are names, faces, people, and places connected with it. You could probably tell a story and, if you stop and think about it deeply, you can probably recall sounds, and some people can even recall scents and odors.

Therefore, when you're selling hypnotherapy services, it's important, if you want them to remember it, that you put it in the form of a credible story in a prose format if you will, so that it's easy for them to hold onto and remember the story.

All the great books of religion in the world were written in story form. We teach children using stories. Here's a perfect example for you to think about:

You go to the store and see a copy of Good Housekeeping. The headline reads, 25 Ways to Keep the Kids Quiet On A Long Trip in the Car. "Just what I need", you say to yourself.

You buy it for the story and you read it for the copy. Facts tell, but stories sell. The story is in the headline and that's what got you to buy the magazine.

Do you recall the book "How to win Friends and Influence People?" The title is 10% primary message, 90% implication. The implication is that you're going to learn how to win friends and influence people.

That may or may not be true but that's why you purchased the book. Whether you really accomplish the task of winning friends and influencing people is another matter, but the title of the book said you could and you believed it. You see what you believe, and you buy the book.
The implications of the advertising and marketing of hypnotherapy are:
• Facts tell but stories sell and
• People don't buy hypnotherapy - they buy the benefits.

As you're developing advertising and marketing plans, remember to tell good credible stories about the benefits of your hypnotherapy services, as perceived by the buyer, not you as a seller.

Your promotional efforts should contain a headline that aims your services selectively at readers or listeners with an immediate interest in your services. You should be concerned about attracting attention and arousing interest - a persuasive presentation, based on information, AIMED SQUARELY AT A HUMAN NEED.

The appeal must be present, if only by suggestion, if your efforts are to have real sell. The headline or title of the promotional effort must promise the prospect something they want.

The headline may be subtle, it may be indirect, it may be round-about, it may be a teaser or a curiosi¬ty-rouser, but it must be rooted in a human need.

The promise, if not stated, must be implied.

Offering Hypnotherapy to people must be done in a manner that targets a need and shows that practicing hypnotherapy will answer that need. No other offer or advertising methodology will work as well as targeting the specific needs of the listener.

There's nothing wrong with explaining hypnotherapy, so long as it is familiar and comforting to the listener. If it's not, then what we have done is turn them away from us.

YOUR MIND

The mind is composed basically of two parts:

1. The Conscious Mind, which is sometimes referred to as the
objective mind or analytical mind, and which makes up
approximately seven to ten percent of the mind.

2. The Subconscious Mind, which is also referred to as the
unconscious or subjective mind, and which occupies the
remaining ninety to ninety-three percent of the mind.
The conscious mind has partial control of the nervous system and
muscle action. Everyone has slowed his rate of breathing and heart rate, or affected muscular reaction by using the conscious mind.

This is the voluntary portion of the mind.

The conscious mind has the responsibility of organizing the mental
process in order to cope effectively with reality. The conscious
mind receives messages from the senses and uses this information
in deciding to accept or reject the incoming information. The
conscious mind is used to make day-to-day decisions. It is also the
guardian of suggestions that enter the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind is where the conscience resides. Most of us
think of the conscience as stemming from a religious doctrine or
parental training, or both. It actually consists of our intellectual
and spiritual concepts of right and wrong derived from, and
believed acceptable by, our society. It serves as a policeman
regulating our behavior.

We are aware of our conscience when we think of or commit an act
that is contrary to our long-held beliefs, precepts, or moral code.
This presents conflict within, and the conscience tells us so with
uneasy and uncomfortable pangs and inner pain. From these
uncomfortable feelings can spring guilt, frustration, and anxiety.

On the other hand, if we plan or enact a favorable experience that
is in keeping with our standards and values, then we feel "good"
about ourselves and find life at that instant more meaningful. The
conscience is not altered in a state of hypnosis. Either way, it
remains active and functional.

The subconscious mind controls the autonomic nervous system
and regulates and coordinates heart function, glandular activity,
muscular movements, etc. It is the coordination of this complex yet
well functioning process that keeps each person alive and healthy.

When a person is unconscious through anesthesia, shock, coma,
or injury, the subconscious state of mind does not inhibit any
function of the body that is there for its own protection and wellbeing.

The subconscious is a vast storehouse of knowledge, impulse, and
experience accumulated since birth. Everything a person has seen,
heard, smelled, felt, and experienced since birth is recorded in the
subconscious mind. The mind can be compared to a computer.

Exploratory brain stimulation by surgeons and case studies of
hypnotized subjects has demonstrated that past memories are
stored, not forgotten.

COMMUNICATE WITH YOURSELF

Have you ever talked to yourself?

Sure, everyone does: "Where did I leave those keys?” -“In the door, no... on the shelf. Ah, here they are!"

But have you really communicated with yourself? With your innermost self, your subconscious, in a way that is beneficial and informational for you? Probably not.

There are such subconscious methods of communication and ways in which you can ask yourself questions and receive incredible answers.

You create your own problems and situations, and therefore you know, inside, the “how” and “why” concerning them.

We are speaking specifically about day-to-day problems that are impeding your growth process.

There are ways to detach your two minds, directly bypassing the conscious evaluation process so that you can reach your truest and wisest thoughts and feelings, stored in the subconscious mind.

While you may rationalize your behavior and justify your actions, your subconscious mind makes none of these excuses. The subconscious mind is impartial. It doesn't seek to judge you, yet it's a storehouse of valuable information that is, for the most part, easily and quickly accessible through methods of subconscious communication.

7 Steps to PERMANENT Change for 2009

1. Have a written plan detailing the specific skills you want to change. The more specific the better. “To be a better listener” isn’t specific enough. “To ask better questions and talk less” is very specific.

2. Include DAILY reminders and/or practice exercises in your plan for consistant reinforcement… Repetition is the mother of learning... Find a place and time for consistant reinforcement—look for opportunities throughout the day to use the skills in real situations.

3. Include a plan of action to respond if you revert back to old behaviors. Don’t “beat yourself up” if this happens, because it happens to everyone. The key is to know this in advance and have a plan in place to quickly reinforce the desired behaviors when you do revert back. For example, if you know you tend to ramble a bit to much (perhaps because of nervousness) when doing group presentations, when you catch yourself doing this have two or three “re-framing” thoughts or actions memorized that allow you to immediately get back on a positive track such as “Sorry –
I tend to ramble when I’m nervous – but this is important information and I want to make three key points.”

4. Develop visual reminders of the benefits and rewards to be achieved through changing your behaviors and the price to be paid if you do not change. Photos on the refridgerator ( of Winston Chrchill or Dr. Martin Luther King to represent great presentation skill, of your family to represent clear communication, etc.), notes on your bathroom mirror, your desk, or the dashboard of your car.

5. Notice if your plan is working—if after a few weeks you don’t notice any positive change, it’s time to re-evaluate your plan. You can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

6. Share your plans with supportive friends and co-workers. Ask for their help in keeping your plan on track. Select a few people to give a weekly or monthly “report card” on your progress.

7. Reward yourself for small victories—but keep the rewards proportional. Minor progress deserves a minor reward, but when you have achieved a major milestone in the plan, reward yourself with a major celebration.
