Eye movements confirm hypnosis

access
Compared with her normal state (top), a woman's "hypnotically induced stare" (bottom) may mark an altered state of consciousness, researchers propose.S. Kallio et al/PLoS One 2011
Though less obvious than giant red swirls in the eyes, a glassy gaze that jumps around in bizarre patterns may mark a fake-proof hypnotic trance, researchers report.
Though scientists found this ocular giveaway in just one woman, the results suggest that that hypnosis truly is an altered state of consciousness, says study coauthor Sakari Kallio of the University of Skövde in Sweden and the University of Turku in Finland.

Stop Eating These 10 Foods to Drop the Fat

Top 10 Unhealthy Health Foods

#1: Diet Soda – You already know diet soda isn’t good for you, but just how bad is it? Artificial sweeteners, combined with artificial flavors and colors in a carbonated beverage is a recipe for disaster. Diet soda is nothing but water and chemicals. Some of these chemicals are known to cause cancer. Choose water with a twist of lemon instead.
#2: Bran Muffins – Beware of portion size. Many bran muffins are huge and pack in a ton of fat, calories and sugar, leading to a late-morning energy crash. Even Starbucks’ popular and relatively healthier Apple Bran Muffin has 350 calories and 9 grams of fat, which still won’t be any major help in keeping your waistline trim. It might be a good idea to avoid muffins altogether. Instead, consider a bowl of bran cereal and small serving of fresh fruit.
#3: Frozen Yogurt – Don’t be fooled. This soft-serve treat may be low in fat, but it’s high in sugar. Just 8 oz of your favorite frozen yogurt can easily contain over 50 grams of sugar and 240 calories or more. Sprinkle with yogurt chips and that’s another 20 grams of sugar and 140 more calories. You could end up with more sugar than a can of soda and some candy bars combined.
#4: Granola Bars – Check the fine print. Granola bars may seem like a healthy alternative to cookies and candy bars but they can actually have significantly more calories. Most granola bars are loaded with sugar and fat. One serving ofNatureValley’s Roasted Almond Crunch granola bar has 8 grams of fat and 11 grams of sugar.
#5: Fruit Juice – Try eating whole fruit. Some fruit juices contain so much sugar you might as well be drinking pop. Just because the packaging says “contains real fruit juice” doesn’t mean the beverage inside is good for you. Eat whole fruit instead and you’ll get tons more antioxidants and fiber, without the insulin spike and crash you get from juice.
#6: Salad – Salads aren’t a health food once you pile on the toppings. Many restaurant salads are packed with add-ins, such as cheese, bacon bits, creamy dressings, and croutons. With added toppings and dressing a salad is a waist-expander, rather than a low-fat lunch. Having lunch at TGI Friday’s. Their Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad has 1760mg of sodium, 36 grams of fat (including 70% of your daily intake of saturated fat) and 590 calories. You would have been better off ordering their Prime Rib Stroganoff if you’re watching your weight with half the sodium, a third the fat and only 390 calories.
#7: Smoothies – Make your own. Most smoothies are not diet friendly unless you make it yourself at home. The average large smoothie contains a whopping 520 calories and 100 grams of sugar. Choosing a smoothie for lunch may seem like the lighter option, but the truth is you’ll get lots more energy from a whole sandwich and vegetables, plus you’ll get fewer calories and less sugar.
#8: Instant Oatmeal / Boxed Cereal – Watch out for additives. The flavored packets of instant oatmeal generally have less protein and fiber, and more sugar, salt, and additives. Boxed cereal may brag about the vitamins and minerals it contains, but a closer look will reveal 10 grams of sugar. Try whole grain oatmeal or shredded wheat for a healthier alternative.
#9: Fat Free or Low-Fat Salad Dressing – Try a small portion on the side. Drenching your veggies with a dressing labeled fat-free means adding more calories and sodium to your meal. The fat in low-fat dressing has been replaced with sugar or artificial flavors and sweeteners. Try substituting with a dressing made with olive oil, or just use olive oil and vinegar.
#10: Frozen Diet Meals – Don’t be deceived. Most of the health benefits from frozen diet meals come from the small portion size. While low in fat, the majority of frozen dinners are high in salt. For a healthier option try preparing batches of food ahead of time and freezing them in small containers. You’ll have a quick and easy meal, without the salt and additives.

The Secret of Weight Loss

In the medical community, "obesity" is generally said to be present in women with more than 30% body fat and men with more than 25% body fat. "Morbid obesity," a more serious condition still, occurs when a person is 50-100% or 100 pounds above his or her ideal body weight or has more than 39% body fat. Medical problems commonly associated with morbid obesity include diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, certain cancers (including breast and colon cancer), depression, and osteoarthritis.

Obesity among the American population is a serious epidemic. The results of a 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey indicate that an estimated 64% of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese.

Millions of people approach weight control, focusing on the symptom. The symptom being the weight itself. These people put all their energy into baking it off, working it off, starving it off, or all kinds of fad diets.

They all experience the ups and downs on the weight charts and scale. This makes for a lot of upset and depressed people who think that they will never solve the problem of eliminating, permanently, those excess pounds and inches.

The only time that anyone has to be concerned with weight control is when they are eating. The fact of the matter is that people are concerned with weight before they eat and they beat themselves up after they eat. While people are eating there is no concern.

We spend a small amount of time each day eating and that is the only time that people have to increase their conscious awareness and focus on developing proper eating habits.

If you are overweight, you may be so because you formed a habit of eating improperly.

By re-educating your eating habits, you will find that you still enjoy eating and for much more positive reasons. You'll eliminate weight -- and you won't regain it.

The plan is very basic, simple, and easy. Every week, for a period of six weeks, you are going to practice a new and different mental exercise to help you change your eating habits.

WEEK ONE: Sit down to eat and drink. Even if it's only a piece of gum or a sip of water, sit down! This will help eliminate the unconscious snacking that is so much a part of being overweight. This also eliminates tasting foods for those who cook.

WEEK TWO: Relax! Take a minute to breathe comfortably and be thankful for the food in front of you. This will help you become aware of the foods that you eat and the way in which you eat them.

WEEK THREE: Chew your food well. Sip your drinks. Take small bites. Depending on what you are eating, chew from 25 to 40 times with each mouthful. By consuming small portions and eating more slowly, your taste buds will have a chance to get the full and wonderful flavor from the nutritious foods you are eating.

Your stomach will have a chance to tell your mind that you are full and satisfied and that you require a smaller amount of food than before. It can take the same amount of time to eat a small amount of food as it does to eat a large amount.

WEEK FOUR: Get rid of bad emotions and frustrations. if you have a problem or transaction that you are working on, clear your mind before you eat. Eating out of frustration is a very common bad habit.

WEEK FIVE: Think about the food you eat, especially the flavor.

WEEK SIX: Leave something on your plate (besides your fork). We’re conditioned to clean everything from our plates and programmed to believe that cleaning our plates will help starving children elsewhere in the world or that it’s a sin to waste food.

OTHER ATTITUDES TO CONSIDER

1. Refer to diets as menus.

2. Refer to losing weight as eliminating weight permanently.

3. Use smaller plates and glasses.

4. Serve yourself smaller portions.

5. Use one room in the house in which to eat, perhaps even one chair.

6. Keep a diary of the food you eat.

In addition to these exercises, it is important that you utilize the techniques learned in altered- states (hypnosis) to effect habit change and visualize exactly the way you want to look.

Imagine yourself standing on your bathroom scale and looking down at the weight you want to be.

Some sample weight control suggestions:

1. I weigh ___ pounds and am slim, healthy, and attractive.

2. I eat only those healthful, nutritious foods that allow me to maintain my weight at ___ pounds.

3. I eat my meals slowly and enjoy every bite. I taste and savor my food better than ever before.

4. The desire to eliminate fat from my body is stronger than ever before. I am, on a daily basis, eating less and enjoying food more, and the desire to eliminate weight is stronger than the desire to eat.

5. I see myself as being slim, trim, firm and solid. I think thin.

6. I am staying satisfied for longer periods of time. The desire to eliminate unnatural fat from my body is stronger than my desire to eat. I see fattening eating behavior and I have no desire to indulge in such behavior. I enjoy being slim, trim, thin and slender.

By utilizing these behavior modification suggestions you will completely re-educate your eating habits and will have formed a successful pattern for creating and maintaining a slim, trim, permanent new shape.

Roman Catholic priest holds the record for inducing the hypnotic state

Father Gassner was a Roman Catholic priest with parishes in southern Germany, and to this day probably holds the record for inducing the hypnotic state in the shortest possible time - seven seconds.

He amazed medical science, clergy and others by suddenly appearing before his congregation at Mass bearing an illuminated crucifix, and saying in Latin, the equivalent of "go to sleep." It was recorded that his congregation immediately slumped in their pews and into a deep somnambulistic trance. He then, it is reported, shouted positive affirmations for healing.

While there is some doubt that Mesmer's method actually induced the hypnotic state, there is no question about Father Gassner.

Surely, "faith healing" was also demonstrated by Fr. Gassner, as he recorded over ten thousand "cures" and was at all times careful to have witnesses present, either from the Bishop's office or someone prominent in law, medicine or civil administration.

He also made another startling contribution to both medicine and psychology when he performed one of the first recorded experiments of lowering the pulse, blood pressure and heart action of a patient by hypnotic suggestion.

HYPNOTIC ANESTHESIA

There are several ways in which the person who is proficient in self-hypnosis may literally anesthetize a region of his body. Painless childbirth and successful surgery without drugs are both coming to be almost commonplace occurrences. Instruction in how to do it, however, is indeed skimpy.

Pain, like neuron response, normally travels through afferent and efferent paths of the complex nervous system to and from the brain.

There is at all times a sensory response to pain, quite obviously evolutionized in man for survival purposes.

The purpose of paralyzing drugs is the blocking of the pathway to the brain; ostensibly hypnotic anesthesia does the same thing. For example, as Novocain numbs the nerve ends in the mouth it also prevents any agitation and transmission of pain to the brain. (View Jim Zinger using Waking Hypnosis for Dental Surgery... Doctors are Amazed... NO anesthetic was used!)

To better understand how this works, imagine sensitive feeder lines designed to transmit a message to headquarters.

If the lines become short circuited or cut in two, then we might have an idea of how pain is transmitted (or not) from one's hand (for example) to the brain. Pain is nature's way of enabling man to prepare himself for protection, survival or repair.

In our study of the neuron, nerve cells and properties, we examined the marvelous biologic impulse of the nerve to interchange potassium, chlorides and sodium. We saw how an impulse is carried from one nerve cell to the synaptic area, thence to the next cell and eventually to the brain. Imagine now that the nerve cell we examined has become temporarily lifeless and unable to function.

In other words, any message being transmitted would stop right there at the "lifeless" nerve cell and go no further. And so it is that hypnotic anesthesia can stop a message, including pain or feeling of any kind, from one part of the body to its usual reporting place, the brain. (And all this by directed thought or suggestive image.) The brain then becomes insensible (not knowing) of any pain or even the possibility of pain, though a painful act may either be planned or in actual operation.

One method of hypnotic anesthesia is as follows:

First, deeply relax, of course, and imagine yourself wading into a lake in the winter. Cakes of ice are floating on the top, snow crests the mountains in the background. Your feet immediately become numb.

Then dip one hand into the water - knowing, feeling and experiencing the hand also becoming numb. Your other hand is out in the sunshine and with it you can feel the sun's warmth.

The hand dipped into the icy water has come out completely numbed, with no feeling whatever. You place the frozen hand against the part of your body that you wish to anesthetize - knowing, feeling and experiencing that section become numb and without feeling of any kind.

If it is your left hand, then return it to the ice water if necessary, and retouch the place you wish to anesthetize. All the while your right hand is out in the sunshine, warm, and you can actually feel the tremendous difference. You can stay in the water or come out of it, as you see fit.

This method requires some practice and works well for the more experienced hypnotist or student proficient in self-hypnosis. As in all of life's endeavors, and especially in hypnosis, self-confidence and a good imagination make this modality effective.

Once the need for the anesthesia is past, the subject must be returned to the relaxed state and brought out of the "benumbed" feeling by the suggestion that "all feeling returns, you are feeling wonderful." In the case of a pulled tooth It is usually a good idea for the subject to remain in a state of waking hypnosis with the affected area remaining numb for some hours after the extraction.

In the case of more serious surgery, a continual and repetitive image of the ice body and beginning technique may be necessary.

"Instant" sleep may also be used in this case for post-operative therapy by directing the sleep centers to become effective and experience a terribly tired feeling - thereby sending the subject into natural sleep, the greatest therapy we have.

Another popular technique for hypnotic anesthesia is known as the "switch" method which would be as follows:

First, deeply relaxed, and imagine that within your brain is a long line of switches, with each switch affecting a specific section of your body. If, for example, you have cut your hand or there is a large splinter under the skin which has to be removed, imagine a switch leading to the affected hand with a COLORED LIGHT above the switch.

See yourself pulling the switch, THE LIGHT GOING OFF, and consequently, (realizing that this switch controlled the current lending to your hand), feeling nothing whatever.

Your suggestion would be:

"My hand is becoming numb, numb, number, number, number, number... NUMB.

I am going to pinch my hand and feel  NOTHING.

As I pinch the hand it becomes even number and absolutely  without feeling of any kind.

THERE IS NO FEELING. Completely numb."

Continued practice with the switch method has allowed some practitioners to become. So proficient that they may simply stroke the face (for instance) three times and have it become instantly numb. The student should work toward such perfection of technique.

Dr. William S. Roger is an authority in the whole area of hypnotic anesthesia and has performed over four hundred operations using only hypnosis as anesthesia.

Still another method is to imagine that the part of the body to be anesthetized has been eliminated from the body. If it is a tooth, for example, imagine that the lower jaw (for instance) has been entirely removed. Another method is to imagine yourself apart from your body and looking DOWN on your body until the pain is alleviated.

Whichever method you choose for a certain circumstances, keep in mind that as Dr. LeCron states, "The subconscious can close the nerve currents just as an anesthetic drug paralyzes the nerves." Your repertoire of professional "tools" is never complete without your knowledge and  practice of hypnotic anesthesia.

Facts Tell, But Stories Sell And People Don't Buy Hypnotherapy Services, They Buy Benefits.

Facts Tell, But Stories Sell And People Don't Buy Hypnotherapy Services, They Buy Benefits.

In order to sell somebody something, you just have to remember what it is that we're offering. The problem is that, as human beings, we tend to forget facts, and we tend to remember stories. This is an inherent characteristic of the human memory system.

It's not a miraculous revelation. In fact, it's been known from time immemorial. All the great books of religion in the world are written in story form. We teach children using stories, and we do this because stories are easy to remember.

When we want somebody to remember what it is that we're offering them through the use of hypnotherapy, we need to tell stories.

Consider that if you were to be asked right now how much you could remember of what you learned in high school, you would probably say "very little". On the other hand, if you were asked if you could remember your first date, you would probably think for a moment and say "yes".

An interesting question then comes to mind, and that is, since both of these were at about the same period of your life, why is it easier to remember one than the other?

The answer is this. You do, in fact, remember a great deal of what you learned in high school. In fact, you use it every day. You just don't remember it with any degree of specificity, because what you learned was an endless string of facts and data that were to be used in your daily life in your work.

Your first date, however, is a story. There are names, faces, people, and places connected with it. You could probably tell a story and, if you stop and think about it deeply, you can probably recall sounds, and some people can even recall scents and odors.

Therefore, when you're selling hypnotherapy services, it's important, if you want them to remember it, that you put it in the form of a credible story in a prose format if you will, so that it's easy for them to hold onto and remember the story.

All the great books of religion in the world were written in story form. We teach children using stories. Here's a perfect example for you to think about:

You go to the store and see a copy of Good Housekeeping. The headline reads, 25 Ways to Keep the Kids Quiet On A Long Trip in the Car. "Just what I need", you say to yourself.

You buy it for the story and you read it for the copy. Facts tell, but stories sell. The story is in the headline and that's what got you to buy the magazine.

Do you recall the book "How to win Friends and Influence People?" The title is 10% primary message, 90% implication. The implication is that you're going to learn how to win friends and influence people.

That may or may not be true but that's why you purchased the book. Whether you really accomplish the task of winning friends and influencing people is another matter, but the title of the book said you could and you believed it.

You see what you believe, and you buy the book.

The implications of the advertising and marketing of hypnotherapy are:

·         Facts tell but stories sell and
·         People don't buy hypnotherapy - they buy the benefits.

As you're developing advertising and marketing plans, remember to tell good credible stories about the benefits of your hypnotherapy services, as perceived by the buyer, not you as a seller.

Your promotional efforts should contain a headline that aims your services selectively at readers or listeners with an immediate interest in your services. You should be concerned about attracting attention and arousing interest - a persuasive presentation, based on information, AIMED SQUARELY AT A HUMAN NEED.

Let's face the truth... Diets programs for many people just do not work. And the real reasons they don't work all boils down to one simple fact.
  • People work only on the symptoms and not the problems.
The symptoms are the excess weight and inches we put on our bodies by eating incorrectly
The problem is in how we eat -- the mental attitudes and behaviors we have about food and self.
Without question there are many other factors that contribute to weight gain and obesity as you know.
  • Eating, when stressed, we shovel food down our stomach and eat too fast.
  • Overeating -- we continue to stuff our stomachs when we are filled to the brim
  • Our attitudes about wasting food.
  • And a long list of other reasons that would fill this entire page.
Unquestionably healthy weight elimination includes knowing what to eat -- However, more importantly is to develop and reeducate your mind with new eating habits and behaviors that result in permanent weight elimination for life.
