Instant SELF-HYPNOSIS – How To Go Deep Quickly!


In the field of hypnosis, there are virtually scores of verbal and non verbal techniques to induce the desired state of relaxation. Many stage hypnotists use lights, pencils, hypno-discs, candles, magic eye discs, crystal balls, swinging watches, pendulums, and other objects.

In learning self-hypnosis, none of these artificial means are necessary. In self-hypnosis, you induce the state of hypnosis by relaxing and concentrating.

Becoming aware of your own thought processes for self-directed hypnosis is the starting point to auto suggestion and to becoming deeply relaxed. This means to be relaxed in mind and body, escaping momentarily from the cares of the day, to induce the receptive state so effectively created by your own suggestion.

Many specialists in the field of hypnosis have likened the experience to that of sleep.

Doctor Sigmond Freud called it "artificial sleep." Many hypnotists use the word "sleep" in their induction proceedings. This, however, is a misnomer, for you do not go to sleep in the accepted sense of becoming oblivious to your surroundings. In hypnosis, perhaps a better word would be “drowsy;” for at all times in self-hypnosis you are entirely aware of your surroundings, you hear outside noises and you are not asleep.



This does not mean if you are particularly tired when inducing self-hypnosis that you will not slip into natural sleep. For a beginner, this is always a possibility. With training and practice, however, you will find that you will remain simply relaxed until your period of fifteen minutes is concluded.


HOW TO PRACTICE

· Select a comfortable chair in which you are at ease.
· Remove or loosen any tight clothing such as neckties, belts, etc.
· Turn off radios, televisions, and take your telephone off the hook. It is essential that you are not disturbed.
· If you have pets, it is best to put them in another room. Have both feet on the floor or on the footrest or hassock of your chair.
· Uncross your legs and arms.
· Look at the clock. Note what time it is and then imagine that it is fifteen minutes later. For example, if you have chosen to practice at 6:00 p.m., then imagine that the time is 6:15 p.m.
· Use your imagination, for you will be doing a lot of this as the course progresses.
· With repeated practice, you will find that in time you will be opening your eyes at the conclusion of your practice period and it will be exactly fifteen minutes later.

We have all done this many times without realizing how the subconscious responds to the images we give it.

Many times we will set the alarm clock the night before for an early rising only to awaken before the alarm goes off. Essentially, this is evidence of image psychology and how we can direct our minds, even in sleep, to respond precisely.



PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW



We recommend the following relaxation techniques:

· Begin every session with three deep breaths, and as you exhale, think silently and inwardly, "I am relaxing." Close your eyes and feel yourself relaxing from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.

· Think to yourself, "Any and all outside noises, sounds, and confusion only cause me to go deeper and deeper into this wonderfully creative state of deep relaxation."

· Concentrate on your toes. Feel a tingling sensation there and imagine this sensation spreading across the bottom of your feet and up your legs to completely envelop your entire body.

· Take your time; feel this wonderful feeling of relaxation spreading slowly up your back and around to your abdominal muscles, up your chest to your neck, scalp, eyelids, and then to your facial muscles and entire head. You will now recognize that you are completely bathed in the feeling of relaxation.


Use your own thoughts and words and as often as possible use the words "deep," "relaxed," "relaxation." After you are relaxed, do not be concerned with whether or not you are hypnotizing yourself. Simply follow through with the relaxation procedures. Feeling drowsy is a good state to seek.

To help you develop your imagination, practice going through the following sensations, once you are in the relaxed state:

· After approximately 5 to 7 minutes of relaxation, take 2 to 3 minutes to feel heavy. Imagine yourself feeling heavy. You may imagine yourself as weighted down in a jet, climbing after takeoff. Or imagine that your body is made of lead.

· Next, take 2 or 3 minutes to feel light. Imagine how it would feel to be an astronaut, floating around in weightlessness. Or feel yourself floating right off the chair.

· Next, take 2 or 3 minutes to feel warm. Imagine yourself in a sauna or steam room; or feel the sun on a very hot day. Relate to an experience you have had. Your memory and imagination will do the rest.

· Finally, take 2 or 3 minutes to feel cool. Imagine yourself in the snow or in a cold swimming pool. Again, relate to physical sensations you have previously experienced.

· Next, imagine how you would like to think, feel, act and react that day. If you are practicing at night, imagine how you wish to be the next day.

Overcoming Fear of Success


Recently I came across the book "Overcoming The Fear Of Success" by Martha Friedman. In reading this book, I found it refreshing to have someone as direct, knowledgeable and to the point about the Fear of Success that I decided to quote several pages.

"To get what we want, we first have to know what we want, and for that we have to know who we really are."

"It's too bad that these last words, 'who we really are,' have become a sort of joke, buzzwords to put down the 'Me' phenomenon that we are in the process of experiencing. It's a shame, because the basic concept of ‘Know Thyself' is absolutely essential to overcoming the fear of success. Too many of us have faulty perceptions of ourselves; we'll go nowhere until we come up with honest appraisals."

"Any number of self-help success books advocates and promise that with self-awareness and self-knowledge, all things are possible." "Wrong." "What usually happens to people who have a fear of success is that they do a lot of soul-searching and then say, 'All right, I know myself -- I'm a mess."

"These books say things like: 'Are you feeling depressed about losing a job?' A lover? Then they advise, 'Go to a party; put on a happy face; who knows who you might meet there.' Or the say, 'Feeling guilty is a waste of time.' Both of these pieces of advice are just too much hogwash, neither deals with the root of such depression or guilt. In fact, such advice easily produces a still greater sense of unhappiness about non achievement."

Ms. Friedman goes on to talk about how many books, only suggest Band-Aid cures and don't deal with the internalized negative messages both parental and societal -- that keep us from enjoying our full potential. She suggests that to discover the underlying reasons for self-sabotage in our careers, sex lives and elsewhere that there are no shortcuts. She says "one of the best ways to start on an exploration to see whether or not you have a 'fear of success' is to see if you relate to any of the following symptoms.

"Are you a perfectionist?"
"Do you procrastinate?"
"Do you have difficulty making decisions?"
"Do you fear making a mistake?"
"Do you fell too fat for sex?"
"Do you use sex as a weapon?"
"Do you repeat mistakes?"
"Have you ever said, 'I can't get is all together and I don't Know why'?"

Insomniacs Stop Beating Yourself Up and Go to Sleep


Insomnia, like over-eating and smoking, is a learned behavior. It is usually only through planning and practice that a person becomes an insomniac. With the use of the progressive suggestions that you will feed yourself during the day and before you go to sleep at night, you can change your habit in approximately six weeks.

Hypnosis is a natural method of relaxing; and if the insomniac is occupied with utilizing hypnosis techniques, he will most likely drift into a sound and natural sleep.

Hypnotized With Your Eyes Open – Don’t Laugh You Do It Daily!

Waking hypnosis is a state of mind and there is no difference between being hypnotized, with the eyes open and the eyes shut. The state of mind is the same.

Waking hypnosis is a state of hyper-awareness or concentrated attention; as a result, there are not the distractions in waking hypnosis as in the conscious state. It can be used very effectively if efforts are concentrated on a single project.

For instance, if one has an intricate or exacting task to do, he may do it better by using waking hypnosis. This can mean playing a better game of golf, bowling a better game, studying with more retention and recall, or writing a letter, poem, story or scientific document.

Waking hypnosis can mean a greater command of mental and intellectual capacities at any given time with correct preparation and suggestion. Those who use it cover a wide swath of endeavor, from weight lifters to oral surgeons, from engravers to gymnasts, from real estate salesmen to lecturers and teachers, from billiard champions to actors.

Waking hypnosis means being tuned in and turned on to a specific project. As in the case of hypnosis generally, there seems as yet to be no clearly defined scientific explanation or study as to precisely how waking hypnosis works and how its mental alterations function.

We know that it can be a self-directed state, or one directed by a hypnotist but exactly what in the way of brainwave alteration or energy change takes place has yet to be scientifically studied and documented. There are persons, to, who do better than others in waking hypnosis.

Why is this?

Many have said that it is a sociological matter and is "human nature" that a fraction of a given group appears to be more intelligent or adaptive than the majority, but this answers nothing. Until psychology and medical research pool their efforts to undertake studies in hypnosis and the promising field of waking hypnosis, there can be no decisive answer to the logical question of how it works. We simply know from years of observation and participation that it DOES work.

The use of the electroencephalograph has not produced the enlightenment we would like; neither has bio-feedback equipment. And the Russian and Bulgarian investigations, while more extensive than ours, still leave the question of waking hypnosis scientifically unanswered. Science demands proof, evidence and substantive data.

In waking hypnosis we have the visible proof of its working, but not the confirmation through scientific examination and longitudinal study.

We cannot explain, for example, why a subject who in the conscious state can only do ten push-ups can consistently do fifteen in waking hypnosis. We cannot explain why it is that intuition, concentration and inner control of one's talents are increased and augmented with waking hypnosis. All we know is that it does work, but not "how" or Why."

In the early 1940's a Russian electrician invented a process of photography utilizing high frequency fields and developed what is now known as Kirlian photography, by which it is possible to photograph energy, or the "life aura" emanating from living organisms, including man.

Something approximating Kirlian photography may be required to understand and study hypnosis, especially waking hypnosis.

If mankind can develop such things as Kirlian photography and propel men to the moon, surely more sophisticated methods of exploring man's mind can also be found. But it is a fact that society's priorities determine funding, so until society (and that means you and me) decides to place a higher priority upon scientific research than upon playing games, the unfolding of the mysteries of man's mind will have to wait.

Waking hypnosis begs for scientific investigation and offers fascinating promise in the fields of behaviorism, perception and learning.

Surely the need for psychological research is obvious.
